Explanation

Adding か (ka) to the end of a sentence turns it into a question. In polite speech, the intonation rises naturally. No need to change word order like in English.

What is this?

日本語を話しますか。

Notes

  • In casual speech, か can be dropped and replaced with rising intonation.
  • Question words like 何 (what), 誰 (who), どこ (where) are used with か.
